Operation Bookshelf

Believing that “The right books, in the right hands, at the right time can change worlds,” the club’s Operation Bookshelf sends donated books to schools, libraries, the U.S. Merchant Marine, prisons and others. Since its inception, over 2 million books have been distributed. Donated books are, also, sold at the club’s semi-annual Tag & Book Sales to provide funds for shipping.

Twice a week volunteers receive and sort out usable books for donation. They are classified and shelved in order to select suitable volumes to fill requests. These are then packed and shipped when necessary, free of charge to the recipient.

Donations

Operation Bookshelf welcomes books in good condition in particular recent fiction, art books and children’s books. Operation Bookshelf does not accept technical materials, encyclopedias, travel books more than five years old or books that are yellowed or mildewed.

Where to Leave Donations

Bags and boxes of books can be left in the hutch behind the right side of the Carriage House.  The Carriage House is located at the rear of the property.
